Tree Stump Removal Method

Cutting a tree down is easy enough. But unless it was a small tree you will be left with the stump. Stumps are sometimes deliberately left tall for use as as a pedestal for a garden sculpture. In other cases the stump may be cut low to the ground. Stumps can be left to slowly rot away, a process that takes years. If you are living on a farm the stump probably won’t be in your way but not so in a residential yard. Certain species of trees are very vigourous and can send out new growth from the stump or the root sytem left in the ground. Unless something is done about it these can quickly grow as they are fed by sustenance remaining in the root.

Stumps can also become a nuisance if they are on a lawn area. As well as presenting as a tripping obstacle they can also be annoying when the grass is mown. Often surface roots are raised above the ground level. In many cases these roots can catch on the lawn mower causing damage to the blades.

This is where a stump grinding machine can come in very handy. One of these machines can grind the root and stump into wood chips to well below the surface. When this process is completed the pile of waste can be shovelled back into the hole and flattened off to leave it tidy.

Stump grinders or stump cutters are powered units that employ a spinning disc mounted with metal teeth that reduce the stump to wood chips. A great range of different size grinders are available for every possible requirement, from stumps around the home to land clearing applications.

A typical stump grinder incorporates a cutter wheel with fixed carbide teeth. Larger machines employ hydraulic arme to move the cutting head back and forth where as smaller machines with a fixed cutting head are moved by the operator pivoting on the centrally located wheels of the grinder.
